indie is what you said but also usually has like acoustic guit, piano, synth, banjo, or other wierd stuff in it. its AMAZING
it does mainly mean that the artist isn’t affiated with a major label, but anything that is once little, eventually turns main stream, and now people have turned the term to mean a sort of newer alternative style music.
The radio but still familiar to significant number of people.
Indie bands are well-known, but not so well-known that everyone has heard them. Some people say indie is like “emo” music too. So… yes and no. It really depends on who you’re talking to.
