Is it possible to have two independent displays from a single computer?

I have tried to do something a bit like this, but unfortunately failed, you can use 2 monitors to extend what you’re using, but I don’t think you can run it this way

You can do it in Linux and you will be able to do it Windows Vista. You’ll need a video card with Dualview support. I’m talking about multiple separated desktops not one desktop extented on more monitors.
